Captain Cook Square given the first award for being Dementia Friendly



Captain Cook Square shopping centre have recently been awarded Dementia Friendly accreditation – a first for shopping centres in Middlesbrough.

Retailer employees, security and cleaners are amongst 22 staff members who all had a helping hand in making Captain Cook Square a Dementia Friendly business in the community, through training with The Dementia Friendly Middlesbrough project.

Lynn Stainsby, Captain Cook Square shopping centre manager said of the award, “We’re over the moon to be the first shopping centre in Middlesbrough to be given this award and we couldn’t have achieved this without all of the hard work of our supporting staff and retailers.”

The award presentation took place at the Jury’s Inn in Middlesbrough on Wednesday 27 April and was presented by Mayor Dave Budd.

Lynn added, ‘We will continue to support the community in Middlesbrough and strive to build on our first accreditation for Dementia throughout the year.”
