Festive gift wrapping to raise funds for charity of the year

A shopping centre in Middlesbrough will be getting into the festive spirit this weekend by launching its very own ‘charity gift wrap station’.

Shoppers at Captain Cook Square will not only be able to buy all their Christmas presents but have them wrapped in the same trip – all for just a simple donation to the centres charity of the year, My Sisters Place.

Volunteers from My Sisters Place will be on hand between 11am-3pm on Saturday 2nd, 9th, 16th and 23rd December for the public to have their gifts wrapped.

As well as the gift wrapping, the centre will also welcome some very special guests on Saturday’s in December, shoppers will be able to meet some cheeky elves who will be on hand to spread a little festive cheer!

Manager of Captain Cook Square Shopping Centre, Lynn Stainsby said; ‘’We’re really looking forward to the team joining us. We’ve worked very closely over the last few months to arrange the event and it’s something we’ve never done before. It’s a great way to raise money for a fantastic charity and we’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!’’

Vicky Fisher, Fundraising Manager at My Sisters Place said; "We are delighted to be once again working with Captain Cook Square. The Santa's Wrapping Station is a great opportunity for us to receive vital donations but also most importantly helping us to raise awareness of the help and support we offer to women and their children, in this area who are suffering from domestic abuse.

Christmas can be a particularly difficult time for many women who are suffering from abuse, they often stay silent in a bid to keep their family together at Christmas time. However, violence can often escalate around this time due to the stresses that the festive period can bring. We will have awareness leaflets available at the wrapping station which will allow us to reach out to local shoppers, with the hope that they can reach out to us in return, if they need our help."
